Many of our patients travel to Align Surgical Associates from throughout California and across the United States and Canada. Planning ahead can help you prepare for surgery, recovery, and the support you may need before and after your procedure.

Planning Your Stay

Before you travel, think through where you will stay, how long you may need to remain in the area, and who will help support you during early recovery. Some procedures are outpatient, while others may involve a hospital stay. Our team is here to help you prepare for surgery so you can plan for your procedure appropriately.

If you are traveling from outside California or from another country, we also recommend reviewing any insurance, referral, authorization, or coverage requirements before booking your appointment.

Transportation and Travel Support

Some patients may need additional help getting to and from their surgery or arranging for transport during their stay. The following resources can help with travel grants, flights, accommodation, and local transportation.

National

  • Elevated Access: Elevated Access helps eligible LGBTQIA2S+ patients access free flights for healthcare through a volunteer pilot network.
  • Trans Youth Emergency Project: The Trans Youth Emergency Project helps families of transgender youth navigate bans on gender-affirming care and offers logistical and financial support for out-of-state travel.

San Francisco

  • Homobiles: Homobiles provides safe, affirming transportation support for LGBTQIA2S+ community members in the Bay Area. Our out-of-town patients regularly work with Homobiles for their local transportation needs, including travel to and from surgery and follow-up appointments.

Availability, eligibility, and service areas can vary. We recommend contacting these organizations directly for the most current information.

Recovery Support While Traveling

Many patients build additional support into their recovery planning, especially when they want help with managing swelling, postoperative discomfort, or the practical demands of early healing. Our Community Support Partners page offers resources related to pre- and post-surgical support, including lymphatic drainage massage, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), and electrolysis (hair removal) providers.
